Xcel Energy is working in Loveland, Colorado as part of the 8th Street Regulator Station Reliability Project. Regulator stations are a common component of the natural gas system. These facilities adjust natural gas pressure to the appropriate level for use in homes and businesses.
This project will install a new regulator station near the intersection of West 8th Street and North Colorado Avenue. Xcel Energy will decommission and remove the existing station. Construction will be happening on the north side of West 8th Street.
This work allows Xcel Energy to continue to provide safe, reliable service, even during extreme weather.
Natural gas service interruptions are not expected in the area. If this changes, we'll communicate directly with you.
Project Timeline
The project is anticipated to begin in summer 2026 and be completed in fall 2026.

What to Expect
Our goal is to limit inconveniences to you during work, though you may notice the following:
Intermittent work in the roadway.
Traffic flaggers and signs.
Equipment on site.
Construction noise, dust and vibration.
Temporary natural gas flaring for a few hours on a single day.
Xcel Energy will restore work areas to preconstruction conditions.

There is an existing regulator station at this location near West 8th Street and North Colorado Avenue. The new regulator station will be located in the same area, about 100 feet to the west. Xcel Energy is upgrading regulator stations throughout Colorado as part of its natural gas Regulator Station Reliability Project. The project team will work with applicable jurisdictions, including the City of Loveland, and will follow all permitting requirements.
This work will allow Xcel Energy to continue to provide safe, reliable service to the Loveland area.
Project construction is anticipated to start in summer 2026 and be complete in fall 2026. Schedules are subject to change.

This is like burning natural gas to heat your home, hot water or stove top. While the work is occurring, a flame may be visible. - Hissing, whistling or roaring noise outside near the natural gas lines or inside near appliances.

- Unexplained dead or dying vegetation.
